The Challenge

With teacher recruitment at crisis point, United Learning and Acorn Trust needed a solution to attract future educators and reduce the cost and inconsistency of external supply staff.

The Solution

SEG’s Future Teachers programme placed recent graduates in classroom-based roles for one academic year, giving them practical experience ahead of teacher training. MATs were able to recruit early, shape staff development from day one, and reduce dependency on expensive agency staff.

The Results

1,000 graduates entered the teaching profession through SEG ITT, many via the Future Teachers pathway
Future Teachers reduced variation in teaching quality and improved cover consistency
Significant savings on supply costs across multiple schools
Participants were classroom-ready and more likely to stay in the profession

In Their Words

"Graduates following this route are very strong. They’re ready for the classroom."
- Rob Price, Director of Education, Acorn Trust
"It decreases in-school variation and reduces staff cover costs."
- Stuart Ingram, Regional Director, United Learning
